Black Drum Fishing South Carolina

Black drum are bottom feeders and use their sensitive chin barbels to aid in locating food. Heavy pharyngeal teeth are used to crush invertebrates, specifically mussels, oysters, crabs, shrimp and occasionally small fishes.

Fishing Techniques: The most common means to catching black drum are with fresh cut bait or live shrimp, although many will fall for a shrimp pattern fly or other artificial baits. Black Drum are most commonly caught in the surf and around structure like jetties and nearshore reefs, however deep holes in small creeks will hold many juvenile fish in the colder months.
